The general appearance of a data item is initially determined by Foxfire!. However, you can modify the appearance of data items for a specific Request. For example, you can change the font or alignment of the data item or the text that appears for the column header.

To change the appearance of a data item:

  1. Go to the Select Data Items tab of the Workbench window. How do I get to this tab?
  2. Right-click on the item in the Selected item list and choose the Change Appearance menu item. The Change Appearance dialog box appears.Note: You can also change the appearance of a data item from the Design Preview window by right-clicking on the data item and choosing the Change Appearance menu item.
  3. Make whatever changes you want. For example, you could change the text that appears for the column header and how it is aligned on the page or you could choose a different font type for the data item.
  4. (Optional) If the data item is a number, specify any calculations that will be performed when the group changes in the Summary calculation drop-down box. You could sum the values for the data item, average the values, count the number of items or choose from several other options, or specify no summary calculation at all.
  5. (Optional) If you don’t want the data item included in the output, check the Show column on report box.
  6. (Optional) Print on second line: Create a second detail line and print this data item on the second line in the Request output.Note: You normally use this feature if your data items are too wide to fit on a page.
  7. (Optional) If you want to restore your default settings, click Restore defaults. Also note that if you have an Administrator License, a checkbox appears that allows you to update the Data Dictionary with your changes.
  8. Click Apply when done.
