Sometimes you may want to direct your output to a file on your disk. You can then use that file to work with your output outside of Foxfire!.

Lesson Goals: You are going to send your output to a DBF file. You would use a similar method to create another type of file, such as an XML or text file.

To direct your output to a DBF file:

  1. From the Request Manager, copy LESSON13 by selecting it and choosing Save As from the File menu. Enter xxxLESS13 for the name (substituting your initials for xxx). See also Lesson 2: Copying a Request.
  2. Click the Edit icon on the toolbar to edit the Request.
  3. Click the Specify Output tab.
  4. In the Type drop-down box, click on DBF Table.
  5. In the Data Type drop-down box, click on FoxPro 2x DBF. There is a name box in the lower right. This is the name that will be used to save the file.
  6. Leave the name as xxxLESS13.DBF.
  7. Click the Save icon on the Design Preview toolbar.
  8. Click the Close icon on the Design Preview toolbar.
  9. Run the Request and check that the output has been sent to a xxxLESS13.DBF file in your Foxfire! output folder.
